Like this, mount a 100mm lens on a digital camera with a zoom factor of 1.5 will not convert the lens in a 150mm. Simply the digital camera will take a photo that seems token by a 150mm lens but with the quality of a 100mm lens.
So this factor has only two functions. 1) Compute the lens to purchase to be able the photo as same as with a film camera. The constructor gives the zoom factor for that.2) Understand, why a lens fade for a digital camera will not works correctly on a film camera, because the beam light crossing the lens is unable to light a 24mmx36mm surface. So this zoom acts exactly in the as same as way that the numerical zoom of a compact. With the difference, this characteristic is not an artificial parameter but a real physical limitation. As a result, the zoom factor is really a disadvantage. Differently from a zoom lens, it changes only the framing. Author : Guy Demesmaeker © 2005 SABAM. |
